Thanks to the outstanding generosity of Catholics throughout Lincoln, the 50th anniversary campaign for Pius X High School, A Tradition of Faith, has been a tremendous success! The entire Lincoln community is commended for its generous support!

As of August 30, 2010, the total in pledges is $15,483,567, of which $11,281,808 (73%) has been collected! Thank you!

The A Tradition of Faith campaign seeks to strengthen the faith and academic excellence of Pius X, build financial stability and provide for future needs through a master facilities plan. Funds raised in the campaign will be used in the following ways:

Enhancing the Foundation

First, campaign monies will enhance the Pius X Foundation, a growing endowment fund for the school. Income from the Pius X endowment fund will help to maintain affordable tuition as well as generate income that ensures long-term financial stability for the school. For the 2008-2009 academic year, the Foundation provided 6.2 percent of the school’s operating budget. Increasing the endowment fund’s capital will enable the Foundation to provide a greater share of the Pius X High School budget while stabilizing parish assessments in the future.

Improvements to the physical plant

Second, the campaign helped to provide some physical improvements to the school. Construction of a new Commons area and entrance on the southeast corner of the current facility, remodeling the existing Commons area to accommodate the library/media center and the creation of a dedicated science wing with new science laboratories were part of the project.

Clark Jeary land acquisition

A third goal is to repay the Diocese of Lincoln for the purchase of the Clark Jeary Retirement Center and the land on which it is located (3.888 acres), directly east of the Pius X campus. The $2 million earmarked for this effort will enable Pius X to grow in physical size and enrollment numbers without sacrificing current space.

Support of the Lincoln parishes

The fourth endeavor is to provide support for the 14 parishes in the Lincoln Deanery that participated in the campaign. Through a sharing formula that was developed by a campaign clergy committee, parishes retain 28 percent of the funds raised among their own parishioners, beginning with the first dollar raised. Once parishes reach their goals, they retain 90 percent of the funds raised over that figure.

The Internal Phase of the campaign, conducted primarily in the summer of 2006, raised $6,833,335 which amounted to 114 percent of the phase goal.

In the parish phase of the campaign, 14 parishes within the Lincoln Deanery set out to raise $7 million. Pastors, along with their individual leadership teams, led the way as over 500 volunteers visited more than 6,000 families. Of the $8,650,231 pledged to date, over $6,322,082 (73%) has been collected.

The clergy committee is pleased with the outcome of the campaign. said Msgr. Liam Barr, Dean of the Lincoln Deanery and pastor of Saint Joseph parish, “As clergy coordinator, I was most impressed by the leadership of the pastors and their lay leadership. This overwhelming support for our Catholic high school is a tribute to the parishes that they are truly stewardship parishes.”

We would like to extend our utmost appreciation to the 3,907 alumni, family, friends, parishioners and corporations of the Pius X community that made contributions toward the campaign. It is their support and dedication that allowed us to achieve this extraordinary success!
